Our First Baby Shower

Open Wide, originally uploaded by wireframe.

Yesterday the "honorary aunts", Micah and Amber, threw our first baby shower. Those two are quite the party planners, and we had a great time with the Bookworm Baby Shower theme. They definitely know Julie well. =)

Apples are the preferred gift for teachers, so it was fitting that there was an assortment of apple related food (hot apple cider, honeycrisp apples, apple sauce cookies) along with bag full of gummy worms to go with them. It took me a few minutes to associate the gummy worms with the Bookworm theme, but it was nice touch.

No party is complete without party games, and there were plenty planned for this party.

  • A "Famous Parents" version of 20 questions. Some classics included Shrek, Mother Goose, and the Mom from Everybody Loves Raymond. Wow...
  • Boys versus Girls Outburst with all baby categories. It's surprisingly difficult to think of "10 Seseme Street Characters" or "10 Diaper Related Things" under the clock.
  • The IN-famous Baby Food Tasting Contest. As you can probably tell from the picture, I wasn't really excited to be blindfolded and trying to guess what flavor baby food I was eating. It definitely didn't taste like jam or butter! =)

Note to self: Never buy lasagne baby food for our child. NEVER. I can say from experience now that the stuff is just plain nasty.

The gifts were very special and so much appreciated, but it really was a blessing just to be with our friends to help us celebrate the upcoming day. The gifts of children's books were a special touch. I'm personally excited to share one of my childhood favorite books, The Poky Puppy, with the next generation.

We originally wanted to have a shower after the baby arrived so that everyone could see the baby, but we are so grateful that Amber and Micah forced us to have it now. It's been hard to stay excited during this period of waiting, and seeing all of our friends being so excited really helps us stay excited for the upcoming day! Thank you again everyone!
