Sleepless from Sickness

It's now 11pm and Sophia is stirring restlessly. She has has been up every half hour throwing up and has yet to truly fall into a deep sleep.

This whole evening has taken me by surprise. It seemed like a normal day, and Sophia was a bit fussy after her afternoon nap. No surprise there. She didn't have a trace of a temperature and her first throw up caught us off guard. We thought that it was just an upset stomach when she was transformed back into the happy, energetic girl we know and love. That was 5 hours and many throw ups ago.

Sophia is now on her last pair of pajamas and Julie has had to change her clothes 3 times. I've had to change my pants once, after I was a bit pushy and tried to give her a bit too much Pedialite (Sophia gave me a taste of my own medicine). My socks are still wet from walking across the multiple spots where we've scrubbed the carpets. We've been looking forward to getting new carpet in our bedrooms, but this isn't exactly how I planned on treating our old carpet on our last days together.

Every parent knows that this is the absolute worst feeling on the face of the earth. There's nothing you can do to make your beautiful little girl feel better. There's nothing you can do except hold her and reassure her that, "It's going to be alright". I only hope that those words are audible when your head is stuck in an ice cream bucket.

So, I'll stay up and wait. I'll wait for the next time she wakes up and I'll cleanup afterwards. Believe it or not, I'm the lucky one. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

She needs sleep now. She needs to hold Mama's hand and dream. Forgive my tired rambling. I feel like there was something profound I wanted to share about this experience, but I'm too exhausted to figure it out tonight...

Hope she is much better by now. There is nothing worse than seeing our kids sick. Can't wait to see you all again at a FANA event.
