FANA Entrance

This giant mural stands in the entryway of FANA, the orphanage in Bogotá, Colombia where Sophia spent the first months of her life. It remains a lasting reminder of our trip to FANA where children, infants, and pre-teens call home. We are so very blessed that Sophia received such amazing care at the FANA facilities and we want to help ensure that other children have the same opportunity.

This is why we're reaching out to you, our family and friends, during the Friends of FANA, Minnesota Annual Fundraiser.

FANA is a Spanish acronym for the "Foundation to Assist Abandoned Children". It began over 35 years ago in the home of Mercedes de Martinez. Mercedes became a mother through adoption and saw an ongoing need to provide the children of Colombia with basic necessities, such as food, clothing and medical care, as well as loving homes for those without families. What started in one woman’s home has now placed over 15,000 children of all ages into loving adoptive homes on four continents around the world. FANA also provides medical services, temporary care, and protective custody to over 150 children on an ongoing basis.

The Hogar (mothers' home) is also run by FANA and is every bit as critical as the orphanage. The Hogar offers birth mothers pre-natal care, a safe place to stay, and vocational training throughout their pregnancies, so that they too, can live healthy and productive lives. The Hogar is open to mothers regardless of whether they intend to place their birth children with adoptive families or care for their children themselves. We were very fortunate to visit the Hogar during our stay in Colombia and it was one of the most emotionally powerful moments in my life.

How does the old saying go? "A picture is worth a thousand words." So very, very true. Words alone can not fully describe the impact FANA has had on lives around the world, but you can catch a glimpse of it in the eyes of these children.

We completely understand that these are hard economic times, and simply ask for you to prayerfully consider supporting the cause of FANA. Nothing is too small or large, so please consider giving a tax-deductible donation of cash or stock in any amount online at https://fanamn.ejoinme.org/MyPages/DonationPage/tabid/14728/Default.aspx.

Here are some examples of what your donation could do:
*  $30 is the equivalent of a month's worth of diapers for one infant.
*  $55 covers the monthly cost of a child's school tuition.
*  $112 is the approximate monthly cost to provide therapy for a disabled child.
*  $115 covers the monthly cost of food and hygiene for a child.

Our family shares in the commitment to provide the children of Colombia with the love, care, and family that every human being deserves, and to offer birth mothers the compassion and support that is often missing from their lives. Thank you for the love and support you have given us as we have become a family and thank you on behalf of all of the lives you touch with your gift.

Ryan, Julie, and our sweet Colombian Princess, Sophia Maria (who is feeling much better now)
