We just finished up six weeks of swimming lessons at our local YMCA. Sophia was in the "Sea Turtle" class, and we had half hour sessions every Monday evening. Sophia was a bit older than the other kids, but she loved being in the water with the little ones. We actually found out she should have been enrolled the "Sea Lion" class, but Sophia loved interacting with the "babies" and sharing the pool toys with them (the other class used the same curriculum had a worse timeslot so we decided to stay with our group).
It was a great experience with lots of memorable events:
Sophia loved the little songs we sang in the pool as a group. The "Tick-Tock" song was by FAR her favorite and we are now forced to sing that song a couple times a day...Cuckoo! Sophia likes that song so much that she now tries to sing the whole song on her own during car rides!
Floating on her back was a challenge. Sophia really didn't like it, but we worked on it every week, and she tolerated it pretty well by the last session (especially when she got to wear a life vest).

Sophia loved to jump off the edge. She would often wave to Mami as I counted to three and then lean forward and flop into my arms. I was so impressed how well Sophia handled going underwater. I was expecting tears and "the look", but she did amazing and wanted to keep jumping!

Jumping off the diving board was the icing on the cake for the final swimming lesson. It was a bit of a surprise when the instructors took us down to "the deep end", but it was great to introduce it to Sophia at such a young age. Sophia was such a brave little girl and didn't get scared at all. I tried to teach her Papi's specialty "Can-opener", but the instructors said that would have to wait till next session. :)

More picures of Sophia's swimming lessons are available on flickr.
