Sophia got to take her first trip to California a couple weeks ago! I had to fly out to Irvine for a couple days of work, and my trip just so happened to fall on MEA break, so we decided to make a short family vacation out of it and spend some extra time out in sunny southern California.
Sophia and Julie spent the days shopping and sun bathing while I was at work. There's no doubt that our little girl loves the water. She walked up and down the beach. That's right, she's walking now!

We had an amazing evening with my co-workers from Socialcast at a restaurant with a beautiful view overlooking the ocean. Sophia thought it was incredibly fun to walk around and say "Hi!" to all of the waiters. It was a wonderful outing and it meant a lot to me to have everyone meet my family.

Not all of the trip was smooth sailing though. Sophia had a rough time adjusting to the west cost time zone and afternoon naps were nearly impossible. There were a few meltdowns and restless nights, but overall she did wonderfully. It definitely feels good to have her back home on her regular schedule now. We'll see how the upcoming daylight savings time change affects her though!

We learned a few new things about Sophia while we were in California. For one, she loves carousels! There's a very nice outdoor mall in Irvine with a ferris wheel and carousel. Sophia thought riding the carousel was pretty awesome and she'll still walk around the house and go "UP and DOWN" when we ask what the horses on the carousel do.

We stayed in California for the weekend and made a trip down to the San Diego Zoo Saturday morning. Sophia loved the zoo. She was really interested in all of the different animals and it was just perfect for her age. Julie may have been just as excited as Sophia to see the Giant Pandas too. :)

Sophia's favorite part by far was the duck pond. She was facinated by all of the flamingos and unique ducks. She cried when we left them, but we reassured her that we'd see some ducks in her bathtub that night (rubber ducks of course).

It was a really amazing trip. We took lots of pictures, but now that Sophia is walking, we had our hands full now and the video camera got left in the bag. We might have to plan a trip to Disneyland the next family trip to the west coast!
