Que divertido! What a super fun night we had! All of the families from El Refugio, along with our friends, the Christophersons, rented a "party chiva" for a tour of Bogota's Christmas lights just like the old days when we'd hop in the station wagon and drive around North Mankato! The city was alive with Christmas spirit and some of the most beautiful Christmas lights we've seen. It seemed all of Bogota was out to celebrate the eve of el dia de las velitas. Candles were being lit in the parks around Bogota, and there was an amazing fireworks show that we had prime seats for, directly under the explosions.
It was a riot to watch the reactions of the Colombians as our very animated chiva made its way through the streets of Bogota fully equipped with strobe lights and disco/techo music blaring. It was just as amusing for us to see the sights in Bogota as it was for the Colombians to see sixteen Americans crammed into this tiny bus.
Sophia didn't get to experience the "party chiva" tonight. She was sound asleep at El Refugio (which was for the best since the chiva isn't exactly setup for a car seat). We took lots of pictures and will be sure to share our night with her. We'll be back to Colombia so that she can experience her birth country more fully and the "party chiva" is definitely on our list of to-dos with her.

Oh my gosh...we totally did that too! Driving around Tourtellotte Park looking at the scene they had set up in the valley. Good times.

I have never seen photos of anyone else doing the party chiva thing and I have never heard of the velitas - what a fun night! Thanks for the photos!!

Hey - could your smiles be any bigger? Don't think so! Little Sophia is cuter every time you post a picture....how can that be possible? Such fun riding on a chiva - I think everyone is going to want to try that now when they go to Bogota....I know I will. Could the holiday be any brighter for you guys? I can see the brightness all the way from Bogota!
