Sophie Turns Three...Months

What's That?

We learn more and more about our new daughter every day. Today we returned to FANA to take a tour of the facilities and we were able to better understand what life was like for Sophia before we met her. FANA really is a beautiful, warm environment. If we had to choose anywhere for her to spend the first two and a half months of her life (since they weren't with us), it would be at FANA.

Since today is her three month birthday, Julie and I wanted to take some time to reflect on how quickly things have changed and just a few highlights from our first few weeks together...
  • Sophia's eyes seem to say it all. Her expressions have changed from very serious to alive and happy. She now looks directly at us instead of past us like she did at first. Every morning when she wakes up, her eyes light up when she sees us. That's the best time to catch her cooing too.
  • Sophie loves bath time. She was getting a bath every morning at FANA, so we've tried to continue giving her one each day. Though she is very eager to get her bath each morning at the break of dawn (5:30am), we try to get her to sleep in a little before dropping her in the tub. She likes to kick her legs and generally make it difficult for Papi to hold onto her. She's such a good sport and lets us lean her back to wash her hair, and she never cries when Mami accidentally pours soapy water in her eyes. Since she enjoys diaper changes nearly as much as bath time, we've come to the conclusion that she loves being naked.
  • Speaking of diaper changes, Mami has had a few adventures of her own. Sophia seems to think it's fun to pee with her diaper off. We've already washed the sheets once, and we nearly had to give Papi a shower, but Mami was ready the second time.
  • Sophia seems to like to save her tantrums just for Papi, but it's hard for him to be too upset when she cries so hard that her bottom lip quivers and her cheeks shake.
  • She'll fall asleep holding Papi or Mami's finger in her hand. It's so cute to see her frog in one arm, her rabbit in the other, and her "Amo a mama" plug in her mouth. As one hand holds on to us, the other usually twirls through her hair or rubs her eye.
  • Sophia gets stronger each day. She's able to hold her head up much more than she could at first. She now enjoys facing out in the Baby Bjorn and looking around, as well as snuggling close with her face against our chests. Papi has also begun teaching her the secret Monkey Death Grip which she uses to grab onto our hands and guide the bottle into her mouth when she's hungry.
  • She loves to swing. We're pretty sure she'll be a Johnny Jumper girl in another couple of months.
The list could go on and on. We love you Sophia and we love discovering more about you each day! Happy three months and here's to your first two weeks with Mami y Papi.
