Sophia's Super Weekend

Sophia's Baptism 004

Yesterday was a great day. Some might say it was a SUPER day. Sophia experienced her first super bowl of rice cereal! This was our first experiment with solid foods and it went much better than expected. Sophia sucked down several spoonfuls and the majority of it stayed in her mouth! She seemed to prefer the rice cereal over the nachos and guacamole we had for the big game. It was a good end to a great weekend.

Saturday was a another wonderful and very busy day. Our first party of the day was a birthday celebration for FANA. It was our first FANA event as "parents" instead of a "waiting couple". It was great to meet more FANA families and introduce Sophia, although when Sophia decided to take a nap in the corner, a lot fewer people took interest in us "childless folk". We're awfully boring when we don't have a beautiful little Colombian girl in our arms. =)

The party was definitely hopping. The majority of the little kids were quarantined in the bouncy castle and the rest of the little ones were out on the dance floor. Unfortunately, I forgot my dance shoes and was unable to join "The Macarena". Perhaps next year, I will bust out Guitar Hero and challenge all those FANA teenagers to a little competition.

After leaving the FANA birthday party, we crashed our second party of the day. It was a birthday party for Sophia's cousins Allison and Braden. Sophia was a bit tuckered out, but we stayed long enough to have some cake and ice cream. =)

Next up, was the big show, Sophia's Baptism! Sophia did wonderfully throughout the service. She loved playing with Julie's fancy sweater and was quite content spitting bubbles all over the place until about 5 minutes before showtime. Julie grabbed Sophia's bottle and had her fed, burped and stripped down to her diaper just as Father Terry was calling us up to the baptismal font.

Sophia loves bathtime so she didn't even flinch as Father Terry poured the water over her head and body. Luckily, the water from the baptismal font was nice and warm, but I wonder how Sophia would have handled the cool salt water from the Salt Cathedral's baptismal font?

After the service, we celebrated with the whole family at the church for an "after party". Plenty of food was brought in and Sophia's Great-Grandma made a special baptismal cake for her. Both Sophia and Papi were quite tuckered out from the very exciting and exhausting day. Sophia got to take a nap in her car seat while I had to wait until we got home and turned in at the late hour of 8pm.

Congratulations, Sophia, on tackling your first "real" food. We can only imagine what might happen to those cheeks of yours now that your diet has been expanded! Carley just thoroughly enjoyed the latest batch of photos of you and oohed and ahhed over them all. (She did get a little quiet when she saw some other little girls holding you on your lap, however. I think she may have even sneered a bit). You looked lovely for your very special baptism day, too. Congratulations and God bless you always! The Felts

Wishing you a wonderful first Mother's Day, Julie. There is no better day to count your blessings, in my book. Hope you are enjoying your beautiful daughter today and doing something fun.
